cozy inn, culver city, california
I went to the Cozy Inn once with a friend. We wanted to play pool but it turned out to be the kind of place where you needed to put a quarter down on the rim of the table to reserve your place in line; the kind of place where you would play the winner and were not allowed to play your friend (unless you won and they were the quarter-bearing challenger).
The pool players brought their cues in hardshell cases. The cues were not solid pieces of wood, rather they were many individual bits that you’d screw together into a carefully engineered instrument of athletic precision.
The Cozy Inn was also the kind of place where old men in sweats sat on park benches next to the bar and regulars brought old graying dogs that dozed wherever they pleased.
